New Delhi, June 24 (HS): Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that former Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi will participate in the all-party meeting called on Saturday by the Central Government regarding the violence in Manipur.
In a tweet today, Ramesh took a jibe at the Central Government and said that after 52 days of fire in Manipur, union Home Minister Amit Shah has considered it appropriate to call a meeting. Actually, this meeting should have been chaired by the Prime Minister, and this meeting was to be held in Imphal. He said that the BJP has disappointed the people of Manipur.
Ramesh said that Ibobi has been a successful Chief Minister of Manipur. He brought Manipur back on the path of peace and development as CM there three times between 2002 and 2017. Okram Ibobi Singh will represent the Congress in today's meeting. Given his wide experience and deep knowledge, he should be listened to with all seriousness.
It is notable that today Home Minister Amit Shah called an all-party meeting in Delhi regarding the violence in Manipur. In Manipur, a rally was organised on May 3 to protest against the demand for inclusion of the Meitei community in the ST category. The rally was organised by the All Tribal Students union of Manipur. Violence broke out during the rally. So far, more than 100 people have been reported killed in this violence. However, continuous efforts are being made by the Centre and the State to stop the violence.
