Former CM Shanta Kumar expresses concern over delay in money deposit of state share in Central University construction

Dharamshala, January 19, 2024: Former Chief Minister and Union Minister, Shanta Kumar, have raised concerns over the delayed deposit of Rs 30 crore by the Himachal Pradesh government for the Central University. Expressing his disappointment, Shanta Kumar emphasized the urgency of resolving this issue to ensure the proper utilization of the approved Rs 250 crore by the Central Government.

In a press note issued here today Shanta Kumar highlighted the growing discontent among the public due to the state government's failure to deposit Rs 30 crore for the construction of Central University’s main campus in Dharamsala . This delay has led to the initiation of a movement, gaining support not only from the public but also from within the BJP.

While the Central Government has approved Rs 250 crore for the Central University, Shanta Kumar emphasized that this allocation remains unspent until the Himachal government fulfills its commitment of depositing Rs 30 crore. The completion of this financial transaction is crucial for the commencement of development activities.

Shanta Kumar highlighted the prolonged delay in completing this task, spanning 14 years. The need for urgent action has become more apparent, with the public rallying behind the cause and leaders from various political parties expressing their readiness to join the movement.

Shanta Kumar disclosed that he had communicated with the Chief Minister and written letters regarding the matter. The Chief Minister had reportedly assured him that the deposit would be made post the completion of a survey. With the survey now concluded, Shanta Kumar remains optimistic about the government's prompt action.

Expressing his concern for the delay, Shanta Kumar hinted at the possibility of a large-scale movement. He stressed that while he hopes for a timely resolution, he is prepared to lead a movement if necessary, involving prominent leaders from both the BJP and Congress.

The HP CU was approved for Kangra district in 2008 by the central government and the construction of the campus is still to start due to internal fighting between the top leadership of both the major political parties in the state. Now the campus is splitted to Dehra and Dharamsala  the areas of two MP constituencies’. The Dharamsala campus is still to take shape.
