Ludhiana, June 19, 2017: The knowledge of providing basic life support (BLS) is critical for any person in order to save a life in danger. Fortis Hospital Ludhiana conducted ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life support) & Basic life support (BLS) training for the Deep Hospital staff. The objective behind organising the training was to educate hospital staff and Doctors, about the steps to be taken in case of an accident or medical emergency. Around 50 hospital staff & doctors attended the training.

The BLS is the primary medical aid offered to help in reviving, resuscitating, or sustaining a person who is experiencing cardiac arrest or respiratory failure of some sort. It involves providing immediate cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to a patient and then calling for medical help. The primary skills taught at training included basic mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and CPR involving chest compression etc. Every trainee practised resuscitation exercises on a dummy.

Dr Vinay Singal, Head Critical Care and Dr Prashant Puri, Head Emergency, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana trained the staff on a series of simple life-saving techniques that could be performed with minimal or no medical equipment.

Mr Vivan Singh Gill, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana said, “When an emergency situation is recognised, the initial links in the chain of survival are an early access to a medical institution accompanied with early life support care. An emergency like a cardiac arrest, respiratory failure or an accident can occur to a person anytime and anywhere. In such a situation, it is important that the patient is provided basic life support immediately. Considering this severity of providing BLS to a patient in need, we offered this training to the hospital staff who is often the first responders at any site.”

Dr. Baldeep Singh, MD, Deep Hospital came to motivate and stressed upon the importance of quality CPR while resuscitating the patient in an emergency situation.

Also present on the occasion were Ms. Amandeep Sharma, Mr. Pardeep Singh and Mr. Shrikant Juneja.
