Fortis Hospital conducting activities on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week.

Bangalore, August 9, 2019: On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week, Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta road, undertook week-long activities to create awareness on the need for breastfeeding by keeping in mind the theme of, “Empower parents, enable breastfeeding”.

The activities involved a session for members associated with different hospitals and nursing homes on ‘Infant and Young child feeding’, along with a special training session for rural health workers. Fortis Hospitals also joined hands with Food and Nutrition Board Of India and conducted a state-level symposium for the government officials.

Around 150 nurses were trained by Mrs Joyce Jayaseelan, Lactation Consultant at Fortis Hospitals, Bannerghatta road on breastfeeding. In the upcoming days, Fortis has planned to educate the slum dwellers of Madiwala on the importance of breastfeeding.

Fortis Hospital has been conducting, yearly breastfeeding activities to support the “Breastfeeding Week” (August 1st – August 7th).

Dr Hariram, Director, Neonatologist and Pediatrician Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta Road, said,” There is lack of awareness about breastfeeding in the country, therefore we took up this initiative to educate new mothers on the need for exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of the child post-birth along with complimentary food till 2 years of breastfeeding.”
