Fortis Hospital Ludhiana, in collaboration with the Punjab Police Ludhiana, has launched a robust Road Safety Awareness Campaign to promote responsible driving and promote road safety in the region. The campaign, inaugurated at Jamalpur Chowk in Ludhiana, saw the active participation of SHO Jaspal Singh, SI Rupinder Singh, and Dr. (Surg Lt Cdr) Anamica Ahuja, Medical Superintendent, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana.

Ludhiana: Fortis Hospital Ludhiana, in collaboration with the Punjab Police Ludhiana, has launched a robust Road Safety Awareness Campaign to promote responsible driving and promote road safety in the region. The campaign, inaugurated at Jamalpur Chowk in Ludhiana, saw the active participation of SHO Jaspal Singh, SI Rupinder Singh, and Dr. (Surg Lt Cdr) Anamica Ahuja, Medical Superintendent, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana.

 
Dr. (Surg Lt Cdr) Anamica Ahuja, Medical Superintendent at Fortis Hospital Ludhiana, commended the joint initiative, stating, "I applaud our team and the Punjab Police for spearheading the Road Safety Awareness Campaign. Preserving lives and alleviating the strain on healthcare systems hinge significantly on accident prevention and the promotion of safe driving behaviors. Let's unite in raising awareness of traffic safety for a safer and healthier environment."
 

As per industry reports, one road accident occurs in India every four minutes, accounting for 12.5% of all road accidents worldwide, or about 1,45,000 fatalities annually. According to the Road incidents in India 2022 report, The MoRTH data indicates that 115 pedestrians were involved in the 467 traffic incidents that resulted in 364 fatalities in Ludhiana in 2022, with 87 of them being pedestrians. 23.9% of all deaths were pedestrian-related. In addition, pedestrian fatalities increased by 74% in 2022 compared to 2021, per MORTH data.


The Road Safety Awareness Campaign aims to address this critical issue by instigating behavioral change and creating awareness about responsible driving habits. In a novel approach, individuals demonstrating a commitment to adhering to traffic regulations will receive surprise gifts. This creative strategy seeks to reward and recognize those positively impacting road safety in Ludhiana.
 

Dr. Vishavdeep Goyal, Zonal Head, Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana and Amritsar emphasized the shared responsibility for road safety, stating, "Since road safety is a collective duty, we aim to raise awareness of the importance of following traffic laws in partnership with the Punjab Police Ludhiana. Our objective is to instill a sense of responsibility and enhance road safety by acknowledging and rewarding responsible behavior."
