Ferozepur, February 20, 2024: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today said that the construction of the 100 bed PGI Satellite Centre here would finally start with Prime Minister Narendra Modi slated to lay the foundation stone of the same virtually on February 25.
The SAD president said it was a moment of joy for people of the border belt that the Satellite Centre, land for which had been transferred by the erstwhile SAD government in 2016, would finally see the light of day. He said successive State governments, including the Congress and the present day Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, had not taken any effort to expedite the project and it was left to him to first take up the matter with the union minister for health and family welfare and even recently in parliament.
Asserting that the Satellite Centre once completed would be a boon for the people of the border belt, Sukhbir said, “The people of the border belt will now have access to specialized health care services and will not have to traverse long distances to avail the same.”
Badal also informed that the tender for the approval of the Concept Plan and Detailed Project Report (DPR) had been floated and that work for construction of the Centre had been awarded in November, 2023. “I am confident that with the formal inauguration of the project, work on the same will be expedited.”
