Free Eye Screening Camp organised by DMC&H at Rural Health Centre in Pohir benefits over 200 patients
Under the initiative of the DMC&H Outreach Health and Education Programme, a free eye screening camp was organised by Dayanand Medical College & Hospital at its Rural Health Centre in Pohir to detect eye defects and related ailments.
Ludhiana, October 14, 2024: Under the initiative of the DMC&H Outreach Health and Education Programme, a free eye screening camp was organised by Dayanand Medical College & Hospital at its Rural Health Centre in Pohir to detect eye defects and related ailments.
The camp was inaugurated by Mukesh Kumar, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society. Dr Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist, HDHI; Dr Anurag Chaudhary, Professor & Head Department of Community Medicine, Dr Gurvinder Kaur, Professor & Head Department of Eye, Dr Surinderpal Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine and members from various NGOs were graced the occasion
Dr. Priyanka Arora, Associate Professor, and Dr. Ritesh Verma, Assistant Professor, from the Department of Ophthalmology, DMC&H, provided their services during the camp. Over 200 patients were examined, and 13 patients underwent free cataract surgeries at DMC&H. Cost of these surgeries supported by DMC&H Managing Society. Post-surgery, these patients were provided with free eyeglasses and medications.
In his message, Bipin Gupta, Secretary of the DMC&H Managing Society, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to delivering quality healthcare at affordable costs to the rural population. He emphasised that this outreach program is part of DMC&H’s ongoing effort to serve the community.
Dr. Anurag Chaudhary, Professor & Head of the Department of Community Medicine at DMC&H, highlighted that the DMC&H Rural Health Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to address the healthcare needs of the region. He noted that free eye camps like this one help mitigate challenges related to the availability and affordability of quality healthcare for rural residents.
Providing further details on the DMC&H Outreach Health and Education Programme, Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist at Hero DMC Heart Institute, explained that the initiative aims to create a supportive environment that promotes healthier lifestyles while addressing specific health issues within the community. A dedicated medical team has been established to conduct various activities for the benefit of the local population.
Dr. Bishav Mohan added that the program's objective is to reach out to rural communities and provide high-quality, preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare services. He noted that the program helps bridge the gap between rural communities and advanced medical care, making these services more accessible to individuals who might otherwise face difficulties obtaining them.
