Dharamshala, December 29, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Nipun Jindal has reaffirmed the commitment to implementing an effective rehabilitation plan for families impacted by the proposed expansion of Gaggal Airport in Dharamsala. In pursuit of a comprehensive rehabilitation process, Dr. Jindal has mandated a joint inspection of the lands involved, engaging the SDMs of Kangra and Shahpur. This strategic move is aimed at ensuring the well-organized resettlement of affected families, underscoring the administration's dedication to a holistic approach.

A crucial meeting, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Nipun Jindal, was conducted on Friday to delve into key aspects of the Gaggal Airport expansion. Dr. Jindal emphasized that the rehabilitation zones would be equipped with essential facilities such as schools, Anganwadi centers, health facilities, veterinary dispensaries, and Panchayat houses. Detailed reports encompassing these considerations have been meticulously prepared and communicated to relevant departmental officers, accentuating the importance of proactive measures.

The proposed expansion entails the acquisition of land from 14 revenue villages across eight panchayats, including Rachhiyalu, Jugehad, Bhadol, Kayodiya, Bagh, Balla, Barswalkad, Bhedi, Dhugiyari Khas, Gaggal Khas, Jhikli Ichhi, Mugharhad, Sahauda, and Sanaura.

Dr. Jindal clarified that the final stages of evaluating buildings, fruit plants, trees, and crops pertinent to land acquisition are currently underway. This assessment involves collaboration with outsourced agencies, along with employees from Revenue, Horticulture, Forest, and Agriculture departments.

Given the government's indication of initiating airport expansion before March 24, Dr. Jindal has instructed HIMUDA to prepare a detailed map, taking into account all necessary facilities based on the inspection of lands allocated for rehabilitation.

The meeting witnessed the active participation of key officials, including ADM Rohit Rathore, Deputy Director of Tourism Vinay Dhiman, and representatives from the Airport Authority. The Gaggal Airport expansion project envisions extending the runway length of Kangra airport from the existing 1,372 meters to 3,010 meters. The extension will enable the landing of larger aircraft, such as the Airbus 320, contributing not only to enhanced connectivity but also to reduced travel costs on this route.
