Chandigarh, April 19, 2024: A general awareness & interactive session on "Creating safe work spaces: Awareness of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Work place (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013" was held at the Centre for Systems Biology and Bioinformatics.
The Presiding officer of PUICC (that deals with sexual harassment complaints at PU) Prof. Madhurima Verma and member, PUICC Adv. Savita Saxena made the students aware of the Act and highlighted the zero tolerance policy of PU towards sexual harassment.
Prof. Madhurima discussed in detail the provisions of the Act, while informing the participants about the procedure to be followed for filing a complaint and its redressal by the PUICC. Ms. Savita, advocate made the students aware of the various criminal law provisions in place to safeguard women & girls in workplaces which also includes the HEIs.
Dr. Tammanna R. Sahrawat, Chairperson thanked the resource persons for explaining the legal provisions and the procedure in simple words to bring across the point to science background students.
