GGN Khalsa College organises seminar on books penned by city teenagers
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma was chief guest on the occasion
Ludhiana, August 21, 2021: Pondering over an idea, creating a thread of words and then jotting it down on a piece of paper is all what one needs to reach anywhere, at any time and being with the world during this pandemic was the statement made by of Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma. Encouraging, motivating and supporting the young and emerging talent has always been the motto and trend of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana.
Today, Post Graduate department of English under the aegis of Gujranwala Khalsa Education Council, Ludhiana organised an event to embolden the young minds Sukhmani Brar, Pratibha Sharma, Baruni Arora, Sehajal Sharma, Oshin Sangha for creating books entitled, Lost in the Night Sky, Summer Enigma, Your Soulmate is You, Just Keep Going, respectively.
The event started with an introduction of the young writers along with the purpose of the event by Dr. Sushmimdarjeet Kaur, Associate Professor and Head, P. G. Department of English by reciting beautiful and soulful lines from the poetry created by the teenagers and along with that threw light on the purpose of the event.
Dr. S. P. Singh, President, Gujranwala Khalsa Education Council and former Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar appreciated the endeavours of P. G. Department of English for being thoughtful of organising an event to provide a platform to the young and talented minds to show their talent and also share their wonderful and laborious journey of creating their books. He mentioned that Prof. Gurbhajan Gill is an alumnus of this Institute and has always brought laureals to the college by writing books of fiction and poetry. He applauded the efforts of the young emerging writers for making their parents proud.
The event progressed with an observation of the books by Dr. Hargunjot Kaur, Associate Professor, P. G. Department of English by delineating on the matured writing of all the writers. She, talking about the book Summer Enigma, by Pratibha Sharma and Baruni Arora, explained that it's a story about four teenagers who take the reader on a virtual journey where a murder takes place and these teenagers solved the mystery.
Sehajal Sharma's Your Soulmate is You, talks about the awareness of the identity, her poems end with an evolution of the poets, the use of language too is commendable.
Then she deliberated upon the book Lost in the Night Sky by Sukhmani Brar whose writing proved that she is an ardent observer of people, their lives and the things that surround. Complete surrender to love is needed to realise the dreams.
Oshin Sangha's book Just Keep Going had deep emotive meanings, usage of metaphors, faith and constructive lifestyle. Madam quoted from her book, 'silent enough to applaud each other's silence with silence' to depict the role and importance of women.
Prof. Tajinder Kaur, Associate Professor and Head, Department of English, Ramgarhia College, Ludhiana also explained and analysed the books by stating that the children have emerged stronger from the era of pandemic. She mentioned that it was from very matured mind to say that intimacy is not necessarily the physical one, it could be sharing oneself without loosing oneself.
Prof Gurbhajan Gill talked about the role, importance and significance of the daughters in a family, home and society. He emphasised that the girls of a family must be like these who would make their parents proud and honoured in the society.
The event culminated with a warm and heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries by the college principal respected Dr. Arvinder Singh Bhalla. He acknowledged and appreciated the commendable job done by the Post Graduate department of English by organising an event to promote creative writing along with promoting the young minds so that the youth get some inspiration from the young budding writers and dream big, aim big and realise their dreams.
