Ludhiana, September 25, 2022: Keeping the Punjabi traditions alive through wedding songs that capture the age-old magnificence of Punjabi culture is no mean achievement. And Ludhiana-based Ravinder Ranguwal excels at it. There is an effortless verve in Ranguwal's rendition of ghodi - the traditional Punjabi wedding songs that the womenfolk of the groom's family are supposed to sing.

'Ghodi Shagana Di', sung and directed by Ranguwal has been well-received on the digital platforms. The connoisseurs of Punjabi culture have been liberal in showering praises in form of laudatory comments like ' brilliant, very well sung veerji, laajawab, very nice, beautiful...'

Listening to Ranguwal's ghodi is like revisiting the bygone days when the wedding celebrations were a tribute to the vibrant cultural ethos of Punjab.

The old get nostalgic, while the young feel privileged to relish Ranguwal's  rendition of ghodi that is an indelible part of the vibrant culture of Punjab.

"We have to preserve our cultural values and promote the folk songs and folk dances that are the essence of our culture. We cannot allow our culture to die unsung," Ranguwal emphasises.

A retired teacher, while praising him for his commitment to Punjabi music, says, "There is an old-world charm in the ghodi he has sung. You feel time has stopped in its tracks. The crass commercialization of the routine wedding songs is thankfully absent in Ranguwal's 'Ghodi Shagana Di'.
