GHSC-10 organised One-Day Workshop on Dhokra Art
Government Home Science College organised a one-day workshop on Dhokra Art on September 11, 2024. Dept. of Art along with Dept. of Resource Management & Extension of the college collaborated together to host this workshop for the students of B.Sc. Home Science 2nd year and 3rd year IDRM.
Chandigarh, September 11, 2024: Government Home Science College organised a one-day workshop on Dhokra Art on September 11, 2024. Dept. of Art along with Dept. of Resource Management & Extension of the college collaborated together to host this workshop for the students of B.Sc. Home Science 2nd year and 3rd year IDRM.
Jyoti, an Artist working with Pidilite, began with an introduction about Dhokra art and explained its historical background, including its roots in the tribal communities of India, particularly in regions like West Bengal and Odisha. The workshop aimed to promote awareness and appreciation of this ancient craft as well as to engage participants in hands-on creation of their own Dhokra Art pieces.
During the workshop, the resource person, demonstrated the step-by-step process of creating a Dhokra piece by using an earthen pot or its lid, designing and creating a wax or clay model to cover the base and the final finishing using paint color. The workshop concluded with a positive feedback from the participants and a showcase of their beautiful creations.
Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appreciated the students for their enthusiasm, creativity and active participation during the workshop. She further emphasized that such workshops are integral to preserve the cultural heritage and offer a meaningful experience for all involved.
