Gian Sagar Medical College & Hospital students bring laurels at national event


Chandigarh, September 24, 2014: The students of Gian Sagar Medical College & Hospital have brought laurels to the institute with their research projects being selected for the prestigious for Undergraduate Research Workshop (Illuminati 2014). Adding feather to the institute’s cap, the two students also met the former president Dr APJ Kalam at the event.
The director of Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital Dr Barjinder Singh said that the two students Alvin J Joseph and Sugandh Gumber of second professional year had sent their research projects for Undergraduate Research Workshop (Illuminati 2014). The workshop was conducted at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune from September 13 to September 15.
“The research project of both the students got selected. Their project was among 250 projects that were selected from all over India and was adjudged the best poster presented for the session.  They were ranked among the top 16 projects from all over India,” he said.
Being the session winner they won the once in a life time chance to personally meet the former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam who interacted with them on his session of What I will be Remembered for?.
Dr Barjinder Singh said that MBBS students of institute have been actively involved in clinical research since the past four years. They have successfully completed several ICMR-STS projects. Many students have been doing research with support from the institute management and under the guidance of head of department of pharmacology Dr Prithpal S Matreja. The purpose of involving students in research is to inculcate a habit of exploring the changing pattern of patient’s behaviour and how to aptly treat them so as to give maximum benefits to them.
