An expert speaks during a guest lecture on crop diversification and economic sustainability for small and marginal farmers being organised by University College of Agriculture of Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo.

 

Talwandi Sabo, February 4, 2015: University College of Agriculture of Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo organised a guest lecture on crop diversification and economic sustainability for small and marginal farmers.

Dr.Ajmer Singh Sidhu (Dean Agri.College) welcomed all the speakers and listeners of the lecture. Keynote speaker National Awardee Mohinder Singh Grewal (an innovative and scientific farmer of country), (former member of Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India) shared valuable talk with faculty and students. He motivated the agricultural students for self employment at their own farms by adopting innovative and scientific technologies like increasing cropping intensity and involving vegetables, field crops and incorporation of agro based enterprises like poultry, piggeries, bee keeping, fruit nurseries and seed production etc. This Expert lecture was organised as an essential for learning practical training for final year B.Sc. Agricultural students.

A documentary on role of Mohinder Singh Grewal’s wife to become an innovative and progressive farmer with also shown to the students. It was very useful for motivate the girl students of University College of Agriculture.

Dr. N.S. Malhi, Vice Chancellor GKU was present in the lecture, appreciated fruitful talk by Mohinder Singh Grewal and also emphasised on crop diversification. He also dwelt to adopt protected cultivation to increase the income sources of small and margin farmers.

Dr. Daljeet Singh (Prof. of vegetables) delivered vote of thanks and compared the whole programme.
