Jalandhar, December 18, 2012:  True to its theme of ‘Land of Opportunities,’ Haryana has presented a glimpse of its progress and achievements in various fields at the 2nd India Asean Business Fair and Business Conclave, being held from December 18-20 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Organised by FICCI with the support of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of Indian, the Fair was today inaugurated by Anand Sharma, Union Commerce and Industry Minister.

Besides India, 10 Asean countries including Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore are participating in this Fair and Business Conclave.

Haryana has showcased its progress and activities pertaining to Haryana State Infrastructure and Industrial Development Corporation (HSIIDC), Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), Tourism, HARTRON, Agriculture, Horticulture, Woman Empowerment, Higher Education, Technical Education, HAFED, Health and Power at the Fair.

Highlighting the activities of HSIIDC, it has been stated that HSIIDC is engaged in promoting and accelerating the pace of industrialization in Haryana by developing Industrial Estates, Industrial Clusters, Specialized Parks, IMTs, Infrastructures and Express Ways like 135 km long KMP Expressway linking Kundli with Manesar and Palwal. The coming up Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor is further going to boost the industrial progress of the State.

HAFED has highlighted its achievements in the marketing of wheat, rice, mustard, soybean, sugar etc. particularly highlighting the superior long grain aromatic basmati rice. It has also emphasised, how it is organising the supply of quality agriculture inputs at the door steps of farmers, through a large network of cooperatives.

Haryana Government’s Industrial and Investment Policy, 2011 has also been properly highlighted, which provides framework for investment in the State in various sectors like industry, infrastructure, healthcare tourism etc. The policy envisages time bound approvals and provides frame work for establishing infrastructure projects under Public-Private Partnership.

Highlighting the achievements in higher education and technical education, it has been stated that there are 30 universities in Haryana, besides technical institutions offering more than 50 disciplines in pharmacy, engineering, management, architecture, creative and performing arts providing diploma to Ph.D. level education. Rajiv Gandhi Education City is also coming up, which will be having institutions of fame, to provide quality education to students.

The role of Electronics and Information Technology in transforming Haryana into an IT driven economy has also been properly highlighted besides, promoting investment in IT industry and generating IT related employment opportunities.

It has also been highlighted that in wheat productivity Haryana is number one and farmer’s interest in Haryana gets top priority. Farmers get Rs.231 per quintal for sugarcane, which is highest in the country and minimum support price for wheat is Rs.1,285 per quintal.  It has also been mentioned that a Centre of Excellence for vegetables is also being run at Gharaunda (Karnal district) with the help of Israeli technique.

Haryana has not forgotten to highlight about Budha’s trail in Haryana, where relics and remains have been found in different parts of the State, which suggests the prevalence of Budhism in the land of Haryana during the period of early Mauryan dynasty. The remains like Bodhisatva Head from Saga (Karnal), Railing pillar from Bhuna, Gandhar Budha from Jhajjar, Kushan coins, besides 16 Budhist Stupas in Agroha, are surely going to be of interest to Asean countries, who also have links with Budhism.

It is expected that the visitors to the Fair will be getting an encouraging view about Haryana, which has transformed from an agrarian state to a modern industrialised state, particularly during the last seven years under the leadership of its Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
