Ludhiana: Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond stated on Friday that government schools in Punjab have seen a significant increase in student enrolments due to the transformative changes implemented by the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, in the education sector.
During the inauguration of infrastructure development projects worth Rs 24.92 lakh in five government primary, high, and senior secondary schools in the Khanna constituency, under the "Punjab Sikhya Kranti" program, Sond mentioned that teachers are being sent abroad for training to adopt the latest educational practices.
Sond provided details about the development works inaugurated in the five schools in the Khanna constituency. At Government Primary School, Kauri, two classrooms were constructed at a cost of Rs 12.52 lakh, and Rs 2.5 lakh was allocated for furniture and projectors. At Government Senior Secondary School, Libra, bathrooms were built for Rs 2 lakh. At Government Senior Secondary School, Dahiru, a boundary wall was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.60 lakh. At Government High School, Dahiru, bathrooms for children were built at a cost of Rs 2 lakh, and a ground for morning assemblies was prepared for Rs 3 lakh. Additionally, at Government Primary School, Dahiru, the school's boundary wall was repaired at a cost of Rs 1.30 lakh.
Sond noted that Punjab’s education system is regarded as the best in the country. However, during the tenures of previous governments, the standard of education in Punjab deteriorated significantly, leading parents to avoid enrolling their children in government schools. Since the Aam Aadmi Party government took office in Punjab in 2022, the standard of education has been steadily improving. As a result, approximately 15,000 children have taken admission from private schools to government schools.
