Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar inaugurated the All India Inter-University Women Netball Competition at Dharamsala on Sunday.
Dharamsala, March 20, 2022: Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar inaugurated the All India Inter-University Women Netball Competition at Dharamsala on Sunday.
This Championship is being organized by Himachal Pradesh Central University Dharamsala and Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has stressed the need to create an environment of sports in the State. Appreciating the efforts of Union Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur, he said, “Anuraag Thakur has contributed a lot in developing the environment of sports.”
"Coming together is the beginning, keeping together is the progress and working together is the success", said the Governor. He said that there is a need to work as a team.
Earlier, the Governor took the salute of the impressive march past presented by the sportspersons of 43 universities from all over the country.
Around 750 players of 60 teams of women's netball from across the country are participating in this tournament Teams from Himachal, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Telangana are participating in the women's netball event. This competition will be held from 20 to 24 March.
Prof. S.P. Bansal, Vice-chancellor, HP Central University welcomed and honoured the Governor on the occasion. He thanked the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Youth Services and Sports for announcing Rs. 15 crore for the construction of a sports stadium in HP Central University. He said the university played a lead role in implementing National Education Policy besides value added courses. He thanked the Governor for inaugurating the Netball competition.
Dean, Student Welfare Pradeep Kumar, gave sports pledge and Registrar Vishal Sood read out the message of Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur.
Director, Sports, Central University Dr. Suman Sharma proposed the vote of thanks.
MLA Vishal Nehria, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Nipun Jindal, Superintendent of Police Dr. Khushal Sharma, Vice-chancellors from various universities, senior officers of the state government, officials of Central University and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
