Govt should make public details of workers going home: CPI
Demands foolproof arrangements to provide workers with food and water on the way
Ludhiana: Large number of workers are willing to go home because they are neither getting any job, nor ration and have been asked to pay rent for the accommodation at a time when they have not got any wages/ earnings since 22nd March 2020. According to the governments data nearly 8 lakh workers have registered to go home. But they are finding very difficult to know about the status of their registration. May of them have been sent back from the railway station.
Stating this here today, the party’s district secretary Comrades D P Maur, Dr Arun Mitra, Chamkaur Singh, M S Bhatia and Ramesh Rattan added, “We demand the government to make all the details public so that the workers know about the status of their application and are saved of harassment. In the absence transparency of the matter several agents are further harassing the workers. Since about 7-8 trains are going from Ludhiana every day that means a maximum of 14000 workers can board the train. To carry 8 lakh workers in this way will take more than two months. The number of trains should be at least 4 times the present so that the workers can reach home early. Moreover, foolproof arrangements should be made to provide them with food and water on the way.”
