Grand Opening Ceremony of the Junior World Congress in CMC
Ludhiana, April 4, 2019: The Junior World Congress is the first International medical undergraduate conference being held by CMC on the account of 125 years of celebration of the institution. With more than 300 national and international delegates, it hopes to have a global impact on the knowledge of Non-communicable diseases (NCDs)- the theme of the conference. NCDs - primarily stroke, heart disease, cancer, chronic kidney disease and diabetes are responsible for 63% of all deaths worldwide and India is currently witnessing the shift from Communicable to Non-Communicable Diseases. The theme, hence, is of massive significance in today’s day and age. Dr. Jeyaraj D Pandian, Principal of Christian Medical College, Ludhiana said that JWC will equip students in the area of NCDs through high quality workshops and key note lectures delivered by national and international experts. The director of CMC, Dr. William Bhatti, said that with this conference, Christian Medical College, Ludhiana will continue its legacy of giving back to the community, that started with Dr Edith Brown, the founder of the institution. The chief guest, Dr. Prashant Mathur, Director of National Center of Disease Informatics and Research of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) applauded the efforts of the students and said that NCDs are preventable with awareness and early intervention. He highlighted about the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) which focuses on screening, prevention and treatment of these NCDs.. The spectators were mesmerized by the band, choreography and choir performances. Delegates attending this event are coming from all over the country including states like Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to name a few This conference also hosts international delegates from countries like Thailand, Singapore, Bangladesh, Germany and Indonesia. Renowned faculties like Dr. Atul Mehta (Cleveland Clinic), Dr. TarlokPurewal (USA) and Dr. Derek de Sa (Canada) were also present for the ceremony. The conference has been endorsed by renowned national and international medical organizations like ICMR, Cleveland Clinic, World Stroke Organization among others.
