Green Awareness van flagged off to educate the farmers to manage stubble

In order to raise awareness among farmers about the adverse effects of stubble burning and practice crop residue management, Dr Harjinder Singh IAS, ADC (Rural Development) Ludhiana flagged off a green van from Verka point her today. The van is equipped with audio systems that will spread awareness in hot spot areas of Raikot and Jagraon for the next 40 days and educate the farmers regarding the ill effects of stubble burning.

Ludhiana, October 8, 2024: In order to raise awareness among farmers about the adverse effects of stubble burning and practice crop residue management, Dr Harjinder Singh IAS, ADC (Rural Development) Ludhiana flagged off a green van from Verka point her today. The van is equipped with audio systems that will spread awareness in hot spot areas of Raikot and Jagraon for the next 40 days and educate the farmers regarding the ill effects of stubble burning.

The van has been started with the joint efforts of CII Foundation, HDFC Parivartan, Guru Nanak National College Doraha and Agriculture Department, Ludhiana. 

Speaking on the occasion ADC (Rural Development) Dr Harjinder Singh said that  the van is a part of the stubble management campaign initiated by the CII Foundation, Guru Nanak National College Doraha and Agri Department collectively. This van will travel to every village of Raikot, Jagraon, Mullanpur and Sidhwan to educate the farmers regarding the harms of stubble burning and management of the same, he added.

Dr. Harjinder Singh expressed that the efforts of Guru Nanak National College Doraha in spreading awareness against stubble burning have been exemplary. “The college has been involved in spreading awareness for the past 6 years and apart from spreading awareness through street plays and rallies, it has provided machinery to 770 small and marginal farmers by adopting 35 villages of Sahnewal, Doraha and Samrala blocks,” he said. He congratulated the Dean Extension Cell of Guru Nanak National College Doraha Dr. Lovleen Bains and her student volunteers for engaging themselves selflessly in this task of environmental resurrection.

Chief Agriculture Officer Ludhiana Dr. Parkash Singh shared that the department is fully charged to repress any move of the farmers to burn stubble and fight the problem tooth and nail. He congratulated CII Foundation and Guru Nanak National College Doraha, whose dedicated efforts have resulted in commendable reduction in stubble burning cases in Sahnewal, Samrala and Doraha blocks. “Now we have asked them to spread awareness in the hotspot areas of Raikot,Mullanpur and Jagraon so that positive results are arrived at,” the Chief added.

The student volunteers of the college performed a nukkad natak depicting the harmful effects of stubble burning and advising the farmers to desist themselves from such a practice which is surely going to lead to environmental disaster.

District Development Fellow Amber Bandopadhyay, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Parkash Singh, Dean Extension Cell Guru Nanak National College Doraha Dr. Lovleen Bains, Block Agriculture officer Jagraon Dr Gurdeep Singh, Agriculture Officer Dr Jagdev Singh, Agriculture Engineer Amanpreet Singh Ghai, ADO Dr Sukhbir Singh and Project Coordinator CII Foundation Harpreet Singh were especially present.
