Green Consumer Day: Embracing the Zero Waste Challenge at Science City
Pushpa Gurjal Science City, in its commitment to foster a sustainable future, celebrated Green Consumer Day with an inspiring event. The highlight of the celebration was a project model competition themed "Zero Waste Challenge," which saw the participation of approximately 200 students wherein they showcased projects and models illustrating zero waste practices being implemented in their respective schools. The objective of the event was aimed to raise awareness about the significance of recycling, reusing, and reducing waste materials in our daily lives.
Kapurthala, September 29, 2023: Pushpa Gurjal Science City, in its commitment to foster a sustainable future, celebrated Green Consumer Day with an inspiring event. The highlight of the celebration was a project model competition themed "Zero Waste Challenge," which saw the participation of approximately 200 students wherein they showcased projects and models illustrating zero waste practices being implemented in their respective schools. The objective of the event was aimed to raise awareness about the significance of recycling, reusing, and reducing waste materials in our daily lives.
Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City, in his address emphasized that achieving Zero Waste is a goal that is not only ethical but also economically efficient and visionary. He stressed the importance of designing and managing products and processes with the objective of systematically reducing waste volumes while conserving and recovering valuable resources. He underscored that implementing a Zero Waste approach would eliminate all discharges to land, water, or air that pose threats to planetary, human, animal, or plant health. Dr. Grover also encouraged students to embrace Zero Waste practices both in their schools and homes, recognizing that such efforts play a crucial role in preserving our planet. He appealed to students to adopt clean and green energy sources as a means to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources like fossil fuels. By doing so, they would contribute to sustainability, enhance energy security, improve affordability, and ensure broader access to clean energy options for consumers in the long run.
Delivering vote of Thanks at this occasion, Dr. Munish Soin, Program Coordinator said that the event not only showcased the creativity and dedication of young minds but also served as a reminder of our collective responsibility to transition towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future. Further, PGSC continues to inspire and educate individuals, reinforcing the importance of environmentally friendly practices and clean energy solutions in our daily lives, he added.
Results of the competition were as under: A team of Lord Krishna International School Sultanpur Lodhi ranked first where as teams of School of Eminence Government Senior Sec. School Kapurthala second and D.A.V School Kapurthala achieved third prize. At this occasion winner were awarded with cash prizes.
