Group of Ministers holds meeting with Joint Association of Colleges on Post Matric Scholarship
Punjab to release 309 Crores under Post Matric Scholarship before 31st March
Ludhiana: Punjab Government today organized a meeting with Joint Association of Colleges (JAC) to resolve the Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) issues which was attended by all major functionaries of the Punjab Government as well as 13 members of JAC.
The Committee comprised Finance Minister, Punjab, Manpreet Singh Badal; Technical Education Minister & Industrial Training, Charanjit Singh Channi, Higher Education Minister, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa; Social Welfare Minister, Sadhu Singh Dharmsot & Parliamentary Secretary, Raj Kumar Verka.
Chief Principal Secretary to CM Suresh Kumar, Special Principal Secretary to CM, Gurkirat Kirpal Singh; Principal Secretary, Social welfare, Jaspal Singh; Principal Secretary, Finance, K. A. P. Sinha; Principal Secretary, Technical Education and Industrial Training, Anurag Verma; Director, Welfare of SCs and BCs, Malwinder Singh Jaggi & Director of Technical Education Saurabh Raj were also the part of the committee. Apart from these Vice Chancellors of universities including MRSPTU, PUP Etc were also present
From JAC, Satnam S. Sandhu, Chief Patron, JAC; Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman, JAC; Jagjit Singh, President, JAC & Dr. Anshu Kataria, Co- Chairman, JAC raised various issues of PMS.
In the meeting JAC emphasized to immediately release 309 Crores which has been given by the Centre. JAC also urged to immediately pay the pending Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) of Private Colleges that is Rs. 1850 Crores which is due towards 2017-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20. At the same time JAC asked the government to resolve the 9% interest deduction & fee capping issue.
While giving this information to the press Dr. Anshu Kataria said that the Government assured that CM, Punjab & Government is very concerned about the future of SC students. They assured release of Rs 309 Crores before 31st March. They also said that they will disburse pending 40 % share of State of 2017-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20 & they will follow up with centre government along with JAC for the release of balance 60 % share of Center when centre stopped giving funds for this scheme. Government assured to consider a refund of 9% interest deduction. To resolve fee capping issues a committee was formed in which from JAC, Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal & Dr. Anshu Kataria have been made members. The committee will resolve this issue within 7 Days.
