Guest lecture on substance abuse conducted
DMCH conducted a guest lecture on the topic “Drug abuse in adolescents”. This lecture was organized as an initiative under the “Buddy Program” in accordance with the guidelines of the Government of Punjab.
Ludhiana, February 21, 2023: DMCH conducted a guest lecture on the topic “Drug abuse in adolescents”. This lecture was organized as an initiative under the “Buddy Program” in accordance with the guidelines of the Government of Punjab.
Prem Kumar Gupta, secretary, DMCH Managing Society, lauded the efforts of the Government and said drug abuse is a menace to the society and is especially affecting the youth of Punjab. This program is a step in the right direction to curb the problem of Drug Abuse.
The guest lecture was delivered by Dr Sandeep Goyal, Senior consultant, Apollo Hospital, Ludhiana. He elaborated the psychological and social causes that can affect an individual who turns to substance abuse. He also described the kind of signs to look out for in individuals who might be into drug use and encouraged the students to talk to those individuals and their teachers if needed.
Dr Kanchan Gupta, Professor of Pharmacology, Nodal Officer for this program, sensitized the students about the project and what it would entail. She explained different aspects of the project like formation of “Buddy Groups” of 5 students each and a “Senior Buddy” for each MBBS batch.
Dr Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics, thanked the guest for sparing his valuable time and felicitated him with a momento. He hoped that the students would identify the substance abusers and help them under the program to seek help. This would be the true success of the program.
