Harjeet Singh Bedi symbolized trinity of art, literature and cultural profoundness: Dr Surjit Patar
Ludhiana: Addressing an online international poetical symposium in memory of Punjabi poet and artist S. Harjeet Singh Bedi (IRS), the chairman of Punjab Art Council ,Dr. Surjit Patar described him a jovial personality who was a trinity of art, literature and cultural profoundness. He paved for Punjab a way of life celebration through his enriched cultural activities. Sobha Singh Memorial Foundation and Punjab Commerce and Management Association deserve kudos for remembering him through such a poetical symposium .
Speaking on the occasion of Harjeet Bedi’s 18th anniversary,Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill,the president of the foundation informed that artist Bedi was instrumental in establishing the Sobha Singh Memorial Foundation at village Sri Hargobindpur Village in Gurdaspur District where this legendary artist was born . Bedi through this foundation’s efforts first got restarted the struck up work on the Bias river bridge and later with the efforts of S.Gurcharan Singh Tohra of SGPC established a library in the Guru Hargobind Bhawan there. Bedi never gave prominence to his ego to prop up his own artistic pursuits rather he encouraged others to show the talent.
Although S.Hharjeet Singh Bedi was born at village Sakhowal (Gurdaspur), yet he spent most of his life time in Ludhiana. It was because of his efforts that S. Sobha Singh Memorial Abhnandan Granth publication saw the light of the day which was edited by Purdaman Singh Bedi, Harbir Singh Bhanwar and Gurbhajan Gill.
Bedi’s two self composed poems ‘Aandra di dor’ and ‘Adhoori gooftgu’ are memorable ones. Prof. Ravinder Bhattal who was a special guest of the occasion made very appropriate appreciative comments on Harjeet Bedi’s poetry
In his presidential address, Dr. Lakhwinder Johal ,a prominent poet and president of Press Club, Jalandhar said that Bedi’s creativeness ,particularly in Punjabi Bhangra domain will be remembered always .Bedi also led from front in organizing Poet Mohan Singh Yadgari Mela for a decade and a half with the active cooperation of Jagdev Singh Jassowal, Harveer Singh Bhanwar and Gurbhajan Gill.
Prominent poets who recited their poems were Dr Surjit Patar,Sukhvinder Kamboj(US),Sukhvinder Amrit(Mohali),Dr Lakhvinder Johal,Artinder Sandhu (ASR),Balvinder Sandhu(Patiala),Dr Ashwani Bhalla and Tarlochan Lochi from Ludhiana,Surinder Neer(Jammu),Rajdeep Singh Toor(Jagraon),Amarjit Warraich(Patiala) ,Ranjit Saranwali (Ferozepur) ,Hardyal Singh Parwana (Ludhiana),Harpreet Kaur Sandhu(Patiala) and Principal Navjot Kaur (Jalandhar) presented their ghazals and poems to enthrall virtually the poetry lovers across the globe.
The office bearers of S. Sobha Singh Memorial Foundation ,S.Prithpal Singh Hayer,Tajinder Singh Pannu and Tej Partap Singh Sandhu’s contribution for the function remained full stream when Dr Ashwani Bhalla of SCD Govt. College, Ludhiana compeered the poetic symposium very effectively .
