Haryana to conduct special Girdawari in areas affected by Whitefly & leaf curl virus

Chandigarh, September 25, 2015: The Haryana Government has decided to conduct special Girdawari in the areas affected by pest attacks (Whitefly and leaf curl virus) to ascertain damage to Cotton, Guar, Bajra and other crops, and complete the same immediately.
While stating this here today, an official spokesman said the result of the Special Girdawari has to be sent to the State Government through Divisional Commissioner in the specified performa.
The spokesman said that the field formations have been asked to provide the information relating to damage to crops of Cotton, Guar and Bajra in irrigated and non-irrigated areas. It has also been directed that while conducting special Girdawari, Agriculture Development Officer of the Circle and Gram Sachiv of the village concerned should also be associated.
He said that to ensure greater transparency in ‘crop damage assessment’, it has been directed that Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and District Revenue Officers (DROs) concerned should organize camps at village level to apprise the farmers of the procedure being adopted while conducting Special Girdawari. Munadi and due publicity should also be given while conducting special Girdawari to ensure transparency.
He said that according to the reports of the Agriculture Department, pests have damaged Bajra and Guar crops in 14 districts, including Bhiwani, Hisar, Fatehabad, Sirsa, Jhajjar, Narnaoul, Palwal, Jind, Panipat, Gurgaon, Rewari, Mewat, Sonipat and Rohtak.
The spokesman said that in these districts Bajra had been sown in 3,74,565 hectares area. Crop damage in 1,21,970 hectares has been estimated at up to 25 per cent. It has been estimated that 26 to 50 per cent of the Bajra crop sown in 53,795 hectares area and 51 to 75 per cent of that sown in 28,710 hectares area have been damaged. Similarly, 76 to 100 per cent damage has been estimated in 3,800 hectares area.
Similarly, Guar had been sown in 3,64,915 hectares area. According to the report, crop damage has been estimated at up to 25 per cent in 1,09,528 hectares area, 26 to 50 per cent in 1,24,001 hectares area, 51 to 75 per cent in 53,375 hectares area and 76 to 100 per cent in 29,747 hectares area. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
