Ludhiana, July 26, 2018: In the wake of Diarrhoea cases reported in some parts of the city, the health department has issued advisory for the residents to prevent the further spread of disease. The health department officials stated that several other steps are being taken so that the disease does not spread in the district. Besides, a district-level Helpline number has also been issued for the safety of residents.

While providing information, Civil Surgeon Dr Parvinder Pal Singh Sidhu stated that till date, more than 2 lakh zinc tablets, 30,000 chlorine tablets and more than 2.42 lakh ORS packets have been distributed by the health department in sensitive areas of the district.

Dr. Sidhu said that the people should prefer to drink boiled water or should put a chlorine tablet in 20-litre water and consume it after half an hour. He said that the eatables should be kept covered and people should eat anything after washing their hands properly. He said that food should be consumed hot and fresh and over-ripened fruits and vegetables should not be consumed at all. He said that hands should be washed before consuming anything and after using toilet.

He told that the people should not allow the water to get accumulate surroundings and use ORS packet or a mixture of sugar and salt, whenever someone complains of vomiting or loose motion. He said that the ORS packets are being distributed free of cost and in case of any emergency, the patient should be immediately taken to nearby health centre or hospital. Dr Sidhu said that a helpline number, 0161-2444193, has also been set up in the office of Civil Surgeon Ludhiana.

The Civil Surgeon said that last month, diarrhoea cases were reported from Geeta Colony, Bharti Colony, Aman Colony and Bahadurke Road where rapid response teams were immediately rushed to the affected areas. He said that the affected patients were immediately referred to Civil Hospital, Ludhiana. He said that the survey of all sensitive areas is ongoing on regular basis.
