Heavy rain causes several landslides and traffic blockage around Kangra
Dharamshala: 2 people killed, 1 injuured when their car slipped and collided with tree near 53 miles, 18 kms from Dharamshala on Pathankot –Mandi NH. Police said that the driver of the car was injured and is under treatment at Tanda Medical College. The area is experiencing heavy rain since last night, due to which car slipped.
The accident occurred around six in the morning when the occupants were heading towards Pathankot and their car rammed into the tree. It is being told that both the deceased were Army jawans, identified as Des Raj of Jaisinghpur and Ravi of Baijnath and were on way to catch the train at Pathankot to join back the duty after availing leave, the driver has been identified as Vinay of Dhar.
The area surrounding Kangra is experiencing very heavy rain since last night as Gaggal was the wettest in Himachal and recorded 127mm of rain followed by Nagrota Suriyan-71, Guler-62 and Jogindernagar 56 mm of rain .
This heavy rain in the district, blocked several roads due to landslide disrupting traffic. Debris due to heavy land slide on Shimla- Matour National Highway 88 near Samela Tunnel 4 kms from Kangra has stopped vehicular traffic. Debris scattered on the roads scared the drivers. The movement of big vehicles become standstill, but two-wheelers were seen crossing the area with great risk. There were long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road. Concerned authorities said that efforts are being made to restore this route. Apart from this, Sameerpur-Kangra Link Road, Old Kangra Contact Road and Rajal-Nandrul-Kangra Road have also been closed due to damages.
There was no traffic movement since morning on Dharamshala- Gaggal main road due to land slide near Skoh.
