Heavy rain in next 24 to 48 hours predicted in Himachal

Una had 55 mm of rain today, followed by Nahan with 31 mm, Narkanda with 30 mm, Manali with 29 mm, Kangra with 28 mm, Shimla with 27 mm, and Dharamsala with 24 mm of rain from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.
It is continuously raining in Kangra district as well since last night. The administration is on alert as the DC Kangra, Dr. Nipun Jindal, stated that the Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain in the next 24 to 48 hours. He urged the general public not to go near river drains and to contact the toll-free number 1077 or 7650991077 in case of any disaster.
The Deputy Commissioner mentioned that the control rooms at the district headquarters and sub-divisional level will remain open around the clock so that the general public can provide information related to the disaster. This will enable relief and rehabilitation work to be carried out promptly. DC Nipun Jindal stated that revenue instructions have been given to officials to provide immediate relief to affected individuals in case of loss of life and property due to heavy rains. Effective steps will also be taken for rehabilitation to ensure that people do not face any inconvenience.
The Deputy Commissioner has also requested Panchayat Pradhans, NGOs, trackers, and citizens of the district to inform the public about this situation to prevent any untoward incidents. Dr. Jindal mentioned that instructions have been given to take appropriate steps to open closed routes in Kangra district immediately. Additionally, instructions have been given to deploy JCBs and other equipment at sensitive locations to prevent landslides. It has been reported that the Dharamshala -McLeod Ganj via Khada Danda Road, Jalag -Jhuga Devi, and Haler -Nanpuri link road are disrupted until late evening today.
A government official said that inflows in the catchment area of Pandoh dam on river Beas are increasing due to constant rains. The Larji dam, also on river Beas, has increased discharge from the spillway. Simultaneously, there will be an increase in discharge from the Pandoh spillway. People living in downstream areas are warned not to go near the riverside to avoid any mishaps.
