Dharamshala, February 28, 2025: Kangra district has been experiencing continuous rainfall, prompting Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa to instruct Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars, and Naib Tehsildars to remain on the ground and ensure that relief efforts are not hindered at any level.
Due to incessant rain over the past 24 hours, a cloudburst in Rokaru (Multhan) has damaged nine vehicles. Landslides in Poling and Cheran (Multhan) have also caused damage to several vehicles, and 12 houses are at risk of collapse. As a precaution, 12 families have been relocated to safer locations. Additionally, reports indicate that floodwaters have entered several shops in Multhan market.
In Manuni Khad, Khanyara (Dharamshala), three tippers and two JCBs have been damaged due to rising water levels. Meanwhile, near the Shiva Hydroelectric Project in Palampur subdivision, one person has been reported missing, and another has sustained injuries. A search operation has been launched to locate the missing individual.
Deputy Commissioner Bairwa stated on Friday that heavy machinery, including JCBs, has been deployed across the district to clear roads affected by landslides. Additionally, the district administration has coordinated with the Pong Dam management to monitor the Beas River’s water levels. If necessary, the dam gates will be opened to regulate water flow and prevent flooding.
He has urged residents and tourists to avoid riverbanks and streams, refrain from unnecessary travel, and stay in safe locations. "In view of the ongoing heavy rainfall, we request people not to take any risks," he emphasized.
The Deputy Commissioner has advised residents to contact the District Disaster Management Center’s toll-free helpline (1077) in case of emergencies. Disaster Management Centers are operational 24/7 across all sub-divisions, including the district headquarters, to handle any crisis effectively.
