Heena Puri of PAU Ludhiana selected for prestigious Khorana Program for Scholars, 2018

Ludhiana, May 15, 2018: Ms Heena Puri, an M.Sc. student of the Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana has been selected for the prestigious Khorana Program for Scholars, 2018. This programme is sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and Winstep Forward. The aim of Khorana Program is to foster dynamic and transformative student exchange between premier institutes of India and United States of America (USA).

Under the program, Ms Heena will be visiting Pennsylvania State University, PA, USA and work in the laboratory of Prof. Jason L. Rasgon for a period of 10 weeks from 21st May to 31st July, 2018. During her stay at USA, she will work on novel techniques like RNAi, CRISPR-cas9, etc. in mosquitoes and whitefly. She will be given a stipend of USD 2500 apart from health insurance and air fare. At present she is pursuing her M.Sc. programme under the guidance of Dr Vikas Jindal, Assistant Entomologist.

The Vice Chancellor Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Dean, Post Graduate Studies, Dr G.K. Sangha and Head, Department of Entomology, Dr P.K. Chhuneja congratulated the student for bringing laurels to the university and wished her the best in her future endeavours.
