High hopes and expectations for Narendra Modi as a Mediator in Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks
War is not a solution in today’s world, where many nations possess nuclear weapons, advanced missiles, tanks, and sophisticated military technology. War leads to massive destruction, claiming countless innocent lives, leaving children orphaned and women widowed. The aftermath often includes diseases and suffering due to the devastation caused. Every conflict has a peaceful solution, and dialogue is the most effective path to peace. Peace is the foundation for national development across all sectors and sections of society.

Will Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi succeed in his mission to create an environment conducive to peace talks between Ukraine and Russia? The war between the two countries erupted on February 24, 2022. There were hopes that a mediator could soon bring the leaders of both nations to the negotiating table, but this did not happen, and the conflict has only escalated since then.
In July 2024, Prime Minister Modi visited Russia and held productive discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. There are high hopes and expectations that Modi's efforts will strengthen diplomatic ties, foster technological and cultural exchange, and most importantly, address the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. The use of advanced weaponry in this conflict is also contributing to global warming—a critical issue that cannot be ignored. It is believed that Modi discussed the possibility of peace talks with Putin, aiming to create a peaceful atmosphere between Russia and Ukraine.
In August 2024, Prime Minister Modi visited Ukraine during his official tour of Poland. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, furthering his efforts to defuse tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Modi’s objective is clear to mediate an end to the war and promote peace talks that can lead to a ceasefire.
The crucial question remains: Will Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to Russia and Ukraine pave the way for peace talks and a ceasefire, thereby making history by fostering future development and healthy diplomatic relations?
India has always advocated for global peace, recognising that peace is the key to revolutionary development. War, on the other hand, brings only destruction, as witnessed by the people of both countries over the past two and a half years.
If Prime Minister Modi succeeds in his peace mission, it will not only enhance his global reputation but also mark a significant achievement in bringing the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table.
