Himachal Election Commission ordered to hold re-election for Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Haler-Kalan
The elections for the Panchayati Raj in Himachal are being conducted in three phases
Dharamshala: Election Officer-cum Sub-Divisional Officer of Kangra, Abhishek Verma said that after the controversy over the results of counting of votes in the election for the post of the Pradhan of the village panchayat Haler-Kalan of Kangra assembly constituency, held on January 17, the Election Commission have ordered a re -poll on January 21.
After the voting on Sunday, when the counting of the votes of the post of Gram Pradhan started in Haler-Kalan, the situation became tense, as according to the first counting it was announced that Raje Syal got 600 votes and Arun Kumar got 570 votes, but Arun Kumar requested for re-counting, the result reversed. There after the counting of votes were repeated six times which showed different results.
After this incident, people started protesting and some people jammed the traffic and sat on dharna, demanding fresh polls.
Six people were in the fray for the post of Pradhan Gram Panchayat. The Election Commission of the state has decided to cancel the election of the head in this panchayat and ordered to hold the re-election for the post of the Pradhan again on January 21.
The elections for the Panchayati Raj in Himachal are being conducted in three phases on 17,19 and 21 of January 2021.
