Dharamsala, July 2, 2013: Highest rainfall has been recorded in Himachal Pradesh during the month of June 2013.

The State of Himachal received 143% more rain during the month of June this year. A total of rainfall in Himachal Pradesh recorded in June this year is 241mm, which is the highest rainfall during the last 10 years, in HP. Last time, highest rainfall recorded in HP, in June was 179.6mm during the year 2008, which was 100% more rainfall from its normal rainfall for the month of June.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla (HP), all the 12 district received excess rainfall, from 1st June to 30th June 2013. District Kinnaur received 804% more than the normal rainfall, while District Shimla received 120% more than the normal rainfall, District Lahoul and Spiti received least rainfall which is still 25% more rainfall from the normal rainfall.

Amount wise, district Sirmaur received the highest rainfall i.e. 497mm which is still 253% more rainfall from the normal rainfall.

If consider individual stations, Paonta Sahib with 935.6 mm rain was the wettest place in June this year followed by Jogindernagar 773.0 mm, Gohar 658.9mm, Renuka 506.0mm and Nahan 498.2mm.

Temperatures at most of the stations in Himachal Pradesh during June were also normal or below normal due to the continue rainfall and early set of pre-monsoon shower and arrival of south west monsoon in HP.
