Dharamshala, March 7, 2024: Himachal Pradesh Central University, already distinguished by its NAAC grade for exemplary operational methods, has now ascended to a new height in the educational sphere across India. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has bestowed upon the university the autonomy under Category-2, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
This prestigious recognition was shared by Dr. Sat Prakash Bansal, the Vice-Chancellor of the university on Thursday here and expressed immense pride for the institution and the state.
He added that this autonomy granted by the UGC is part of a broader initiative to enhance the quality and independence of higher education in India. Himachal Pradesh Central University joins an elite group of eight central universities, including the illustrious Delhi University, to receive this autonomy. This move by the UGC aims to provide these institutions with greater flexibility and freedom in academic, administrative, and financial domains, empowering them to make independent decisions that align with their vision and objectives.
Under Category-2 autonomy, universities are endowed with the highest level of freedom, enabling them to craft their curriculum, set their fee structure, and establish their admission procedures. This category of autonomy also permits a certain degree of flexibility as determined by the UGC, fostering an environment where universities can innovate and tailor their offerings to meet the needs of their students and the demands of the modern world.
