Historic moment as Covid jabs cross one million milestone in Ludhiana
MLA, DC and Mamta Ashu hail doctors and paramedics over remarkable achievement
Ludhiana: In a historic moment on Saturday, the Ludhiana district administered Covid vaccine doses to one million (10 lakh) residents, a feat achieved in five months. With this, Ludhiana becomes first district of Punjab to have achieved this distinction.
Hailing the contribution of doctors, paramedics, NGOs and all stakeholders engaged in the inoculation drive started in Ludhiana since January 16, 2021, MLA Surinder Dawar, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and MC councillor Mamta Ashu specially reached the civil hospital and congratulated them for this remarkable achievement.
They said that the doctors and healthcare workers have not cared about harsh winter and prevailing scorching heat and are on forefront to giving jabs to the people by reaching nook and corner of the district.
They said it is an incredible mark that has been achieved just because of doctors and health workers of Ludhiana.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the administration now further has scaled up the vaccination drive as we are looking at vaccinating the next one million beneficiaries in next two months. He said that still, the administration has a stock of 55000 Covid vaccines and every eligible must turn up to get the jab to ensure the maximum number of vulnerable beneficiaries are covered as fast as possible.
Sharma emphasized that the people must not doubt the efficacy of any vaccine as both Covishield and Covaxin are most effective and safe and would help to save precious lives.
Giving an example, he said that as Television comes in various brands in the market but they telecast the same shows/matches or movies and similarly, the both vaccines has a same purpose which is to save lives from deadly disease.
He said as per experts, the third wave can be prevented by building herd immunity and it is possible only with the speedy coverage of all beneficiaries in this vaccination drive.
Meanwhile, MC Councillor Mamta Ashu appealed every MC, Sarpanch and Resident Welfare Committee to come forward and motivate the people for getting the vaccine at the earliest. She told that the next target is to cover every beneficiary before advent of third wave as reports suggest it has been surfaced in some foreign countries.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included MC Councillor Sunny Bhalla, ADC (D) Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Commissioner (Under Training) Harjinder Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Kiran Gill, Dr Bishav Mohan, besides several others.
