Sirsa, May 20, 2024: Congress general secretary and in charge for Communications, Jairam Ramesh today said that history was repeating itself in India after twenty years as the INDIA bloc was set to defeat the BJP the same way, the UPA defeated the NDA twenty years ago in 2004.
Addressing a press conference here today, Ramesh who was here to campaign for the party candidate Kumari Selja, expressed confidence that the INDIA bloc will sweep all the ten parliamentary constituencies in Haryana, besides winning the assembly elections which are scheduled to be held after the General Elections.
Ramesh was accompanied by the AICC Secretary, Dr Vineet Punia and Media Coordinator for Sirsa Advocate Mukesh Saini.
The Congress general secretary said that the people of the country have realised that Prime Minister Modi was spreading an “epidemic of lies” in the country by repeatedly lying about everything. “The PM cannot speak a single truth even by default”, he remarked, while adding, he has already lost the trust of the people of this country.
Recalling the events of 2004 General Elections, which the BJP had fought on the theme of “India Shining” under the leadership of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Ramesh said, nobody that time believed that the BJP will lose. “But the Congress led UPA made that happen and it is going to make that happen again”, he said, while remarking, “history is set to repeat itself”.
He said, reports after 428 seats in five phases of the elections suggest that the INDIA bloc was headed for a clear and decisive victory.
Jairam said that the BJP was against the reservations and wanted to change the constitution. He referred to the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s write up published on his official website, where in he had strongly opposed reservations.
Mentioning some of the guarantees the Congress has promised in its ‘Nyaya Patra’, he said, the farmers’ debt will be waived off, besides they will get legal guarantee for the MSP. He also announced that in case of any damage or loss to their crops, they will be compensated within 30 days.
He said, the poor will be given ten kgs ration instead of 5 Kg. Besides, he added, every poor family will receive a monthly cash assistance of Rs 8500.
Among other guarantees, he said, the Congress has promised to hold the caste census, reserve fifty percent jobs for women in central government departments and increase the daily minimum wages from Rs 250 to Rs 400.
