Jalandhar, November 12, 2014: PG Department of Bioinformatics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya in collaboration with Australian Genome Research Faculty Ltd. and Victorian Life Sciences Computation organized a one day Indo-Australian Introductory workshop on ‘Bioinformatics for Next Generation Sequencing Technologies’. 

Dr.Sonika Tyagi, Bioinformatics Team Supervisor, Australian Genome Research Facility Ltd. Australia familiarized the participants with NGS data analysis and provided hands on computational experience in the analysis of NGS data using common analytical approaches.  The workshop was blend of lectures and afternoon hands on training for processing and analysis of real data sets.  The real data set and software for analysis was accessed from virtual servers at VLSCI through cloud computing.  This was the first workshop in this region in collaboration between Indian and Australian organisations.  Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj and the chief guest encouraged the students to go for inter disciplinary research and emphasized the role of bioinformatics in research.  The workshop was attended by faculty members, research scholars and students of various universities of India such as GNDU Amritsar, NIT, LPU, DAV University, BBK DAV College, GGDSD College Chandigarh, SMVDU Katra, Jaipur National University, KMV Jalandhar. 

On this occasion, Harpreet Singh, Bioinformatics Department introduced about the workshop and extended the vote of thanks to the speaker Dr. Sonika Tyagi, AGRF, VLSCI, Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj, Co-convener Sangeeta Arora, all the delegates, print and electronic media and the members of Teaching and Non Teaching Staff.  During this occasion, Dr. Meena Sharma, Head Botany Department, Dr.Anjana Bhatia, Dr. Mani Sharma, Purnima and Shallu Kalia were also present.
