Chandigarh: Government Home Science college organised a live session on Textile Conservation on college YouTube to mark the celebration of the second day of Tex-Style Week. The key note speakers for the day were Dr. Rohini Arora-Assistant Professor, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Punjab University, Chandigarh; Dr. Simmi Bhagat- Associate Professor, Dept. Fabric & Apparel Science, Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi and Ms. Smita Singh- Textile Conservation Consultant, at Textile Heritage Conservation, New Delhi
The first key speaker, Dr Rohini Arora talked about Textile conservation in context with archeological textiles and ethnographic textiles. She emphasized on the needs of conservation and its importance in textile research. The second speaker, Dr. Simmi Bhagat gave a lecture on Basics of Textiles conservation and preventive conservation methods. She also talked about careers and future prospects in Textile conservation field. The last speaker, Ms Smita Singh shared her practical experience and knowledge in the field of Textiles conservation, along with the basic textile remedial and preventive conservation processes. She also talked about the objectives of textile conservation in museums.
