Chandigarh, June 15, 2024: Government Home Science College, Chandigarh recently organized a 4-day free peer mentoring coaching program for aspirants of the UGC NET/JRF Exam in subject of Home Science from June 11 to June 14, under the aegis of Innovation Entrepreneurship and Placement (IEP) Cell of the college.

The online classes were commenced with an endeavor to provide comprehensive guidance and support to students aiming to crack the UGC NET/JRF exam. The classes were undertaken by the JRF research scholars of the institute- Ms. Vanika from the Department of Human Development, Ms. Anupreet Kaur Sobti, and Surbhi Vashisht from the Department of Foods and Nutrition. The classes received an overwhelming response with over 70 registrations.

On the first day, participants were introduced to the scope of the UGC NET/JRF, effective preparation strategies, the exam paper format, and various tips and tricks to enhance their performance. There were in-depth discussions on essential subjects such as Communication, Extension Education, Research Aptitude and Statistics, and Human Development. Additionally, previous years' questions were analysed to help students understand the exam pattern and difficulty level. An interactive session allowed students to clear their doubts, making the day highly productive and informative. The second day focused on Foods and Nutrition, mathematical reasoning techniques, and teaching aptitude. The mentors provided detailed study points, problem-solving techniques, and key concepts to excel in the exam. Continued practice with previous years' questions helped build familiarity with the exam format. On the third day, advanced topics such as logical reasoning strategies, resource management, and data interpretation were covered. Students practiced more previous years' questions to solidify their understanding and readiness for the exam. The fourth and concluding day included comprehensive coverage of the topics people, development, and environment, information and communication technology (ICT), and detailed discussions on clothing and textiles. A final round of practice with previous years' questions ensured the students' readiness for the exam. 

On the concluding day, feedback was collected from the participants, who highly appreciated the efforts of all mentors. The students expressed gratitude for the valuable insights and personalized guidance provided throughout the sessions.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, congratulated the JRF Scholars for empowering their peers through this initiative, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment and also motivated the participants to prepare diligently for the upcoming exam, wishing them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
