Honouring the father of the Library Movement, the late P.N. Panicker, 19th June is being celebrated as Reading Day and the following week as the Reading Week. Started as a Reading Day Celebration on 19th June 1996, it has become a mass movement to promote the culture of reading.
Following the same, 19th June, was celebrated virtually at DRV DAV Centenary Public School, Phillaur as National Reading Day following the CBSE circular no. Acad-68/2023 in which all the CBSE affiliated schools are asked to celebrate P.N. Panicker National Reading Day, Week and Month 2023 . As students are enjoying their summer vacation with their family members so they were asked to read any of their favorite book/holy book or even a newspaper or magazine keeping in mind their and the listener's interest to their parents/grandparents/siblings/cousins and so on. The students marked this day with full spirit and enthusiasm by clicking remarkable pictures and making videos while reading. The celebration got even more flourished with the participation of parents and teachers.
Principal Dr. Yogesh Gambhir appreciated the efforts of students, parents and teachers and said that these reading activities connect the students with the motto, ‘Read and grow’ which would help in boosting up the confidence. Also he encouraged to celebrate the reading week and month with the same zeal as it is imperative to instill in the children love for books and reading.
