Roorkee, Uttarakhand, August 15, 2024: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour in front of the iconic James Thomason Building. The event, which began promptly at 9:00 a.m., saw the participation of students, faculty members, officers, employees, and their families.

 

The program commenced with the gathering of the IIT Roorkee community, who assembled in anticipation of the arrival of the Director. Following the arrival of the Director at 9:00 a.m., the event began with the students' soulful rendition of the "Kulgeet".

 

The Director inspected the Guard of Honour, a symbol of respect and gratitude towards the nation and its defenders. The Director proudly hoisted the national flag, marking the formal beginning of the Independence Day celebrations. The unfurling of the Tricolour was met with a resounding cheer from the attendees, filling the atmosphere with a deep patriotism.

 

In his address, the Director emphasized the importance of unity, innovation, and social responsibility in building a progressive India. He highlighted the significance of IIT Roorkee's role in contributing to the national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, urging everyone to actively participate in nation-building by saving food, water, and energy and maintaining cleanliness.

IIT Roorkee stands as a beacon of innovation and excellence, playing a pivotal role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. Together, let us strive to save our resources—food, water, and energy—and maintain cleanliness, contributing towards a stronger, sustainable India. Jai Hind!" said Prof. K.K. Pant, Director IIT Roorkee.

 

The celebration was enriched with cultural performances that showcased the diverse heritage and talent within the IIT Roorkee community. Students from ABN Senior Secondary School, Anushruti Academy for the Deaf, and the Cultural Society of IIT Roorkee presented captivating performances that honored India's rich cultural tapestry and the spirit of freedom.

 

In addition to the morning festivities, the "Tiranga Yatra," organized by Think India, IIT Roorkee, in the afternoon, brought together students, staff, and faculty in a vibrant display of unity and patriotism. This event saw enthusiastic participation, echoing the success and spirit of last year's Yatra. The procession, which started from the MAC Gate in front of Rajiv Bhawan, symbolized the collective commitment of the IIT Roorkee community to the nation's ideals.

 

The Independence Day celebrations concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by a resounding collective proclamation of "Jai Hind" three times. The spirit of pride and patriotism was palpable as the crowd united in this heartfelt tribute to the nation.
