Ludhiana, July 22, 2024: Horizon School of Excellence, a unique initiative by Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust and Shri Gow Rakshni Sabha, organized an interactive four-day training session for their entire teaching staff in the second week of July. The session focused on enhancing reading and basic mathematical skills in students at the foundation level.
The resource person for the session was Hriday Kant Dewan, who holds a Ph.D. in Particle Physics from Delhi University. Dewan has been actively involved in the Eklavya movement in Madhya Pradesh, aiming to improve school education. With 40 years of experience in teacher development and elementary education, he continues to dedicate his efforts to systemic improvement in public education.
The training session emphasized pedagogical approaches that can be adopted for reading activities, helping children discover their learning paths by focusing on the comprehensive meaning of words in a contextual sense, rather than just the alphabets, and connecting them to real-life experiences. Key topics included strategies for encouraging students to read, promoting multilingualism in classrooms at the foundational stage, story reading sessions, and incorporating various fun activities into everyday classroom teaching to make learning engaging and enjoyable.
Each day of the training included well-planned and interesting activities that encouraged active participation from all educators, ensuring a hands-on and collaborative learning experience.
At the end of the training, all educators felt happy and empowered with new and improved teaching activities for their students. The teachers expressed their enthusiasm and eagerness to incorporate the training techniques into their classrooms.
