Hosiery Workers Protest March for Justice

Hundreds of workers under the banner of Hosiery Mazdoor union – AITUC take out a protest march from railway station, Clock Tower Chowk, Domoria Pull to Mini Secretariat to present a memorandum to Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana on Wednesday.

Ludhiana, August 14, 2013: To protest against alleged high handedness of Basti Jodhewal police, today hundreds of workers under the banner of Hosiery Mazdoor union – AITUC took out a protest march from railway station, Clock Tower Chowk, Domoria Pull to Mini Secretariat to present a memorandum to Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana.
The memorandum was received by Gurpreet Singh Toor, AIG, on his behalf.  
Protestors alleged that some workers of a hosiery unit on Bahadarke Road were beaten by the musclemen of the hosiery owners. The Basti Jodhewal Police instead of registering case against the musclemen have registered case against the workers. This is despite the fact that the workers filed complaint in the police station on August 1 and 2.
The procession was led by Kartar Singh Bowani – District Secretary CPI, Dr Arun Mitra – Assistant District Secretary CPI, DP Maur, Kuldeep Singh Binder and Feroze Master.
The workers held rally at the Mini Secretariat which was addressed among others by Ramesh Rattan, Gurnam Sidhu, Kewal Singh, Manjeet Singh Boota, Ram Singh, Ladoo Shah, Ram Partap, Ramreet, Munna Khan, Badri Parsad, Kameshwar and Ashok Kumar.
