HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar to lay foundation stone of HP Central University on 21 February 2019
Dharamshala, February 11, 2019: BJP MP Anurag Thakur have said that Union Minister of Human Resource Development Sh. Prakash Javadekar visiting the State of Himachal on 21 February 2019 to lay the foundation stone of the university at its both proposed sites at Dharamshala and at Dehra both in Kangra district of Himachal. Commenting on the development, Thakur said, “I am extremely delighted to inform everyone that the foundation stone of the Central University will be laid on 21 February 2019 by Sh. Prakash Javadekar ji. I would like to humbly thank Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Sh. Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of Human Resource Development and Sh. Jairam Thakur, Chief Minister, HP for giving the entire State a reason to rejoice.” Anuraag further added that recently, the 70% complex of Central University at Dehra and 30% at Dharamshala received final forest clearance from Ministry of Environment, Government of India. “This decision was endorsed by another high-powered committee in September 2016. The then BJP Government accordingly moved proposals for clearance of forest land at Dehra and Dharamshala,” said Thakur. The CUHP was established in 2010. On the recommendations of the then government, led by PK Dhumal, a high-powered committee of the then Central Government was constituted for the selection of sites for the university in Kangra district. It was on the basis of the recommendation of this committee that the then Central Government decided to have two complexes — at Dehra and Dharamsala. The then BJP government accordingly moved proposals for clearance of forestland at Dehra and Dharamsala. However, after the Congress came to power in the state in 2012, it proposed to bring up the entire campus of the CUHP at Indrunag in Dharamsala. However, the land proposed at Indrunag in Dharamshala ,was rejected by a committee of the ministry on the plea that it was an active sliding zone. Later, land at Jadrangal ( Dharamshala)was proposed for the CUHP campus. Another piece of land at Dehra was also proposed for the CUHP campus that was kept in limbo by the previous Congress government. The CUHP came into existence in 2010. Since then, it has been functioning from temporary campuses at Shahpur and Dharamsala. Due to non-availability of a permanent campus, the university was facing difficulty in retaining senior faculty. With the establishment of permanent campus of {CUHP} central university will ensure that the students of the State get access to quality education and a platform to build a better future for themselves.
