Hyderabad Runners Society celebrates annual runners evening
The event was received with much gusto and enthusiasm among the members
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Runners Society is a not for profit organisation, founded in 2007 with the aim of promoting "running as the most preferred form of fitness activity". Operating across the twin cities, the group organises runs on weekends and conducts fitness training sessions through the week. We are also the organisers of the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon, the second largest marathon in India by way of participation numbers, held every year on the last Sunday in the month of August.
The group also has a "Runners Evening" annually, where we celebrate the running achievements of their members and give out awards for the same. The awards were given away in 21 categories. With the restrictions around public gatherings because of the Covid 19 situation, Hyderabad Runners has already moved to online "virtual fitness" sessions since March.
In a first of its kind, the Annual Runners Evening was held on August 30th 2020 in "virtual" mode. The awards for excellence in running and volunteering were given away "virtually" over an on line meeting room, with around 200 members participating. The event was received with much gusto and enthusiasm among the members. The awardees and their families joined the meeting from the comfort of their homes. The excitement was evident from the cheering and clapping, except that it was all over a video call.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Muralidhar Nannapaneni, President of Hyderabad Runners Society said "We did not want our members to feel their achievements in the running arena would go unnoticed for this year, hence we decided to adopt to the new normal and recognise them this way.
