BABIL ON CHOOSING QALA
He shared, “Yes, the pressure and expectations were immense at that point. I was getting a lot of offers to play a lead but I knew I did not want to start like that. I wanted my first film to be where I play a supportive role to a female lead. It was important for me. Everyone knew me as Baba's son, nobody knew me as mumma’s son, who is where all my upbringing has come from. I derive a lot of strength from her and that's why I auditioned for Anvitaa's film.”
When asked if he sought inspiration from his father, Babil shared that it is impossible not to be inspired by him. “I cannot help but take inspiration from Baba. For 24 years I have seen him, his movies, 22 years in life and 2 years in my imagination after he passed.”
‘I WILL BE BABA’
He further elaborated that Anvita protected him from giving away his individuality. “Anvitaa told me to stop watching his films because I would watch his films and want to be like him. I would be so excited to make his fans proud, so I was like I would be Baba and would have lost my individuality and Anvita guided me and protected me and taught me a new perspective to look at pressure.”
Irrfan passed away in 2020 after battling cancer.
