Ludhiana, November 25, 2012: The three-day “4th National Conference of Indian College of Anesthesiologists” was formally inaugurated yesterday evening by the chief guest, the State Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

Dr Daljit Singh Principal DMCH, extended warm welcome to the dignitaries present on the occasion.

In his message, Dr Sunil Katyal, Organizing Secretary said that the conference was aimed at sharing the knowledge and wealth of experience of world-renowned experts in the field of Anesthesiology in the rapidly evolving areas of anesthesiology.

The workshop sessions held on the first day of the conference provided hands-on experience to the participating delegates in nerve block techniques.

Third and concluding day of the conference started with session on ‘Neuro Anesthesia’. During the session, Dr Mary Abraham from Fortis, Delhi and Dr Narayana Yaddanapudi from Chandigarh elaborated on the anesthetic consideration for neurosurgical patients.

The speakers during the session on “Regional Anaesthesia” talked on the role and guidelines on use of regional anesthetic techniques in various surgical populations and about the interactions of anticoagulants with neuraxial techniques. In the recent years, the development of ultrasound regional anesthesia was greatly embraced by anesthesiologists as it provides a good visual localization of nerves as well as their path and depth. Essentially, this technology has helped reduce complication rates in patients and helped improved quality of patient care.

Various aspects of Chronic Pain Management were also discussed on the concluding day. Speakers elaborated on newer treatment modalities for management and prevention of chronic pain syndromes. Often the reason for the pain is not clear, and it may take several types or combinations of treatments before pain relief can be achieved to enhance quality of life. The conference was concluded with sessions on important Perioperative Issues of acute pain management and obstetric anesthesia for difficult morbidly obese parturient.
