ICAR-CIPHET grants license for fat free flavoured makhana technology to Nawanshahr based firm
Ludhiana, September 14, 2021: Makhana is an organic, nutritional, non-cereal edible crop. Makhana is a good source of carbohydrate, protein and minerals. In recent years price of makhana has increased due to increase in demand from domestic as well as foreign markets. Flavoured makhana products are manufactured with the use of edible oil or fat along with other flavouring materials and spices. Thus, a fat free product is converted into a product that may contain oil even up to 30%. Therefore the calorific value of makhana is increased due to addition of fat or oil, which is not desirable for health of consumers.
