ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana demonstrates its technologies to KVKs Scientists
KVKs scientists found many technologies useful for farmers and entrepreneurs
Ludhiana: ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana organized an interaction - cum - demonstration meet with KVK, GADVASU scientists on 13.01.2021. The meeting was aimed to synergize the combined strengths of both the institutions to serve the farmers better. A total of 50+ Scientists & Subject Matter Specialists-cum-Assistant Professors from KVKs and ICAR-CIPHET attended the meet. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, Ludhiana was the chief guest and Dr Rajbir Singh, Director ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana was special guest.
Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET welcomed the dignitaries and explained the role of post-harvest engineering and technology in agriculture and allied sector and briefed the highlights of CIPHET technologies. He emphasized the need to reduce post-harvest loss and drudgery at farmers’ end and encouraged for value addition. Dr. Kotwaliwale told that farmer’s income can be increased by primary processing in catchment area. One study found that cleaning and grading of same lot of crop (e.g. tomato) fetched up to 30% higher income. Dr. Kotwaliwale expressed that liasoning with KVKs will ease transfer of technology and thereby benefitting more number of farmers and achieve our goal to serve the society better. Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana acknowledged the role of CIPHET in value addition and processing.
VC, Dr. I. Singh encouraged the scientists to have a broad vision to serve the society and help the farmers in transforming their lives. He highlighted the role of animal husbandry in prosperity of farmers. Dr Singh told this interface meet will synergize the combined strengths of both the institutions to serve the farmers better. He added that an MoU has been already signed between these institutes. In future collaborative research can be initiated for engineering interventions in animal husbandry especially for animal shelter, animal feed, fisheries etc.
During the meet several post-harvest technologies were demonstrated to the scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barnala, Mohali and Tarantaran working with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Technologies viz. Groundnut milk, Wadi Making, Makhana Processing, Live Fish Carrier System and Fish Descaling Tool, Agro Processing Centre, etc. were demonstrated. KVKs scientists also expressed that they learnt about many new technologies. They found many technologies useful for farmers and entrepreneurs and assured that they will take it to the farmers.
