ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana hosts National Seminar on Agri-Food Machinery Standards

Ludhiana, December 19, 2024: ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana, in collaboration with The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and CoFAME-India, organized a National Seminar on “Standardization in Agriculture and Food Processing Machinery Sector” on December 19, 2024, at ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana. The event attracted over 100 participants, including experts from ICAR-CIPHET and PAU Ludhiana, manufacturers, research scholars, and virtual attendees from across India. The seminar aimed to enhance awareness among manufacturers regarding Indian Standards in the agricultural and food processing machinery sector.

The seminar featured several key presentations. Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, delivered a keynote address highlighting the critical role of standardization and the contributions of BIS in fostering technological and industrial advancements. Mr. Gurwant Singh, President of CoFAME-India, emphasized the significance of standardization in improving machinery quality and reliability. Mr. Pradeep Sharma, Scientist-B/Assistant Director, BIS, elaborated on the role manufacturers’ play in developing Indian Standards. Dr. Vinod Kalbande shared his experiences in manufacturing equipment for cleaning, grading, sorting, and packaging, while Dr. Syed Ismail, Emeritus Professor at IIT Bombay, stressed the need to prioritize the standardization of mass-produced equipment to enhance efficiency and usability.

The event concluded with an interactive open-house discussion, where participants’ queries were addressed by experts, encouraging an exchange of ideas. Coordinated by Dr. Sandeep Mann, Head, Agricultural Structures &Environmental Control Division, the seminar reflects BIS’s commitment to fostering collaboration among stakeholders and promoting Indian Standards for technological and industrial growth in the agriculture and food processing machinery sector. The program ended with a vote of thanks from the convenor, emphasizing the collective efforts driving the success of the initiative.
